Love it!! About 10 years ago, we knew a couple whose son dated/married and subsequently divorced a Somali girl. Her mother had been in this country for over 20 years, but refused to learn English because she hated the country. Wouldn’t go back to Somalia though because her 2 sons provided her with a nice 3-bedroom house—just a bit better than the straw hut she gave up to come here. The whole family projected this attitude. The old observation about not applying one example to the group no longer applies. She and the Somali community are a sample of what those “immigrants” are really all about. We have to be realistic—they are not Italian, German, English, etc. immigrants from years past—the vast majority are different because their cultures will not allow them to assimilate into ours—or any Western one. Corruption and tribal hatred are integral parts of their very existence
