A Franz Ferdinand Sort Of Feeling

“Franz Ferdinand’s assassination is bad for Austria and the Serbs.” – Nicholas and Alexandria

As everyone knows, Charlie Kirk was assassinated last week. Now, a 22-year-old suspect, a GloboLeftist with a fetish problem is in custody. This has really illustrated the stark divide between the GloboLeft and the TradRight, as the GloboLeft foot soldiers openly celebrate the assassination.

The nation is teetering on the edge of chaos.

This is not just a tragedy; it is a potential powder keg for the economy, especially since that political polarity is confronting financial fragility as the only thing that everyone in Washington agrees on is that we should spend more. Because one more credit card is what helps the guy on the edge of bankruptcy, right?

The reason that this matters is that the economy is crunching people. Costs are up. Wages? Not so much. The advice that Remus kept sharing, “Stay away from crowds” is still accurate. Especially now. Cities and crowds are tinderboxes with increasing levels of violence.

History loves a good rerun, and the killing of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914 is the template for an assassination that spins the world into the void. A lone gunman in Sarajevo pulls the trigger, and World War I erupts, dragging empires into a meat grinder that reshapes global trade, currencies, and economies. Oh, and it burned a continent.

The extreme political polarity here is the accelerant.

America is a nation where a third of the population sees another third as an existential threat. The GloboLeft has already said that free and fair elections are a danger to “our” democracy. “Our”, in this case, doesn’t include you and me. It’s their democracy and they’ll shut anyone up to prove it, after trying to stop an overwhelmingly popular Trump from even running.

Will the violence end with Kirk? I doubt it. The TradRight has already been invigorated, and I’ve seen multiple videos of AntiFa getting slammed into the concrete or water fountains when, in previous years, they would have been ignored.

And when violence escalates, the economy always pays the bill. Secondary impacts can easily overwhelm the primary impacts.

Cities are dangerous places on a good day. Gridlock, muggings, and overpriced coffee that tastes like regret. Throw in escalating violence from both political and racial tensions, and they become war zones. Again, the TradRight never seems to start these issues, but, rather, wakes up and finishes them. Remember the 2020 riots after George Floyd’s death?

Those were tame in comparison to what the TradRight can do.

I’m not going to go deeper into these scenarios, for now, they need some additional thought and we need time to see if we reach a stable equilibrium. But our economy was already in a delicate place with our debt and falling dollar at the same time inflation and unemployment appear to be showing up.

Things are moving, perhaps quickly. Now is the time to review where you are. Are you in the right place, physically? Do you have a plan if you’re not?

That’s the biggest one, in my mind. I keep saying that a year too early is better than a minute too late.

Second, is are you surrounded by people you trust? If you’re in a “safe” place, surrounded by people you trust, that’s a multiplier. Location equals time, and friends equal multiplied effort. That’s why I’ve been pushing so long to get out of cities – now. It’s better to be in the country, but it’s better to be in the country and not be the newcomer.

In some places that takes years.

Third is security. Ammo still isn’t cheap. But it’s more expensive to need another round or another magazine and not have it in that moment.

Fourth is food. Thankfully, most Americans could live months without a Snickers™ and also live that long without any food at all.

You get the idea. It’s time to review preps, and make sure that the “two is one and one is none” wisdom comes back into your mind.

Oh, sure, this isn’t 1914. And the world hardly ever spins out of control. I guess then, I was wrong. I’ve been wrong lots of times.

I only have to be right one time, however, to make up for every time I was wrong.

I expect I’ll be back to “more normal” posting on Friday, but keep your head on a swivel, and realize that we’re living in interesting times.

  1. Ever see a real fight? Like one where somebody actually gets killed? They’re kind of like multiple dog fights, where the action is so fast, it’s like a blur you can’t follow. It’s loud and ferocious, and bloody, and sometimes terrifying. People are mostly not used to seeing that, but they may be introduced to it, and soon. The comment about Indonesia is very appropriate, and local scores are going to get settled. Head on a swivel and all that. Everyone reading this blog knows about prepping and why. The right coming after the jobs of leftists is just repeating leftist ways, and tit for tat, leads to push and push back, and then a swing, and a hit, and more swings till a club or a knife, or a gun comes out, and hyar’ we go. People that refuse to see the civil war coming will pay for it with their freedom and their lives. See to thy training.

  2. Alleged shooter’s uncle “Mikey” Robinson was a CIA spook for Radio Free Ukraine. Shooter, mom, brother visited his base, posed with legit military weapons.

      1. I think operators would be more accurate. We hard a couple of neighbors a while back that “worked” for the state dept. Definitely not traditional models of deep state. Pleasant people, but I instinctively knew they could be deadly in an instant.

  3. War is horrible. I understand that. We Americans haven’t really seen that in 160 years, but war is horrible. Even our involvement in full scale wars since then have been wars *over there*, which is not the same.

But it could be that allowing the wickedest people you can imagine slowly gain absolute control over everything is more horrible yet. I mean, I’m just a guy with no money talking on the internet, so I don’t know if I can change anything, but that’s my two cents.

    1. You can change yourself, that is all any of us really has. Do whatever you can when you can. You may surprise yourself.

    2. Those who think they are too small to make a difference have never tried to sleep with a mosquito…
      -Gahndi-

      1. The Bible is filled the little guy changing the world. Moses was insecure and stuttered. The Disciples were mainly peasants. The ancient Jewish pointed out that a “mere” woman cast all of humanity out of paradise. The first to witness the Resurrection were more “mere” women.

“Yet such is oft the course of deeds that move the wheels of the world: small hands do them because they must, while the eyes of the great are elsewhere.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings

  4. John – – As a long-time old guy Prepper, I have seen folks who are in fantasy land believing that nothing will change in their lives. They think ATM’s will always be working and stocked with cash. They think the electricity will only be out temporarily and worst of all, they think their toilet will always flush.

They only have an electric can opener, a few bottles of water and bags of chips, crackers and peanut butter in cupboards. That is because they have no idea about supply chains, bank total reliance on internet to function, and think that tomorrow will be just like yesterday (normalcy bias).

Water and sewage systems will collapse as soon as the electricity runs out because backups for pumps run only until their reserves of gas quickly disappear. That is where one’s preparations should focus first. Failure of water and sewer pumps is the weakest link in our modern life. Pumps that move fresh water to you and then to move waste water away (by flushing) are critical and present the hardest problems to overcome in grid down situations.

You are correct. Get to the country. Have water source to tap into when the grid is down. Have septic system so you can remain clean and bacteria free. Have hand pump for water if your well’s power stops (look up Flowjack pump that inserts into your well’s pump, but pumps by hand). Build a larder, grow veggies, cultivate animals/bees and reliable neighbors (as friends).

    Pray, prepare, persevere…….

  5. Much as I love to tar (and feather) leftists as the agents of anarchy and violent destruction, every one of the vocal, left-leaners in my immediate circle of family and friends, nearly all women, are weak, sedentary grumps. The very last people who would ever engage in, let alone initiate, violent action. No molotov cocktails with their boxed wine. And the very thought of any harm coming to themselves or Mr. Whiskers as a result of their beliefs is simply unpossible. After all, like their lawn signs proudly boast, Hate Has No Home Here.

Whenever I press one of them about the growing unrest, they insist that all the violence is coming from the right. From intolerant deplorables (like me) who stubbornly resist their strident calls for unity, so easily achieved if we would all just rally round their luxury beliefs. Even the recent troon-perpetrated atrocities are explained away by an insistence that these poor, misunderstood innocents were driven to their actions by the real villains – evil, patriarchal White men and their brainwashed tradwives.

It is no more than a very small fraction of left-identifiers who walk the walk. The rest just nod in approval like bobbleheads when someone else picks up a brick and smashes a storefront window, or murders a CEO in cold blood on the streets of Manhattan. (It helps, too, if he’s, ya know, kinda hot like Luigi.)

Until now, the 5% of lefties willing to fight held the upper hand while few, if any, on the right fought back. I hope that we have finally reached that inflection point so many have posited is coming. As a wizened old sailor had been known to quip before reluctantly opening up a can of whupass, “That’s all I can stands, and I can’t stands no more!”

      1. Right, they are not really friends. Leftists are never friends. Robinson’s “friend” demonstrated that in immediately ratting him out.
The left always eats their own.

    1. Much of what you said is correct. Perhaps that is why the leftist cabal which acted as “Joe Biden” imported literal entire army corps of foreign invaders. Yes, last week we saw finally, a BLM leader get curb stomped for disrupting a Kirk memorial and some other welcome examples. Assuming there is a rational “head” of the seditionists, they know their street thugs don’t measure up to J6pack in full rage, which is why the CCP, Venezuela, Iran, the Muslim Brotherhood and unknown others flooded hundreds of thousands of “military aged males” into our country with the full knowledge and aid of the Democrat Party.

  6. I have a relative who just deleted all of their book of face posts since 2007. I’m sure that a couple of the recent posts took a favorable view of Charlie Kirk’s assassination. Seems like seeing other people lose their jobs caused a little bulb to go on for them.

If we multiply this by a few million others who are now scared to screech about everyone on the right being literally Hitler, it might turn the political temperature down a bit. Maybe not enough to make a difference but at least it’s something.

    1. Well, sir. The local leftist activists here in Kootenai County, ID stayed quiet for a few days. Now the usual suspects are crawling out from under their rocks, trashing those who wrote LTEs of praise for the work of Mr. Kirk. Or they are trumpeting for “unity”. While no one on the right side of the fence has shot any of these Communist-Abortionists, the posts above on this site are very thoughtful vis-a-vis the long-term effects of this murder and the economic elephant in the room. When it all goes south, there will be plenty of patriots out there ready to: “…set things right.” – H/T to Josey Wales. They are making their lists and checking them twice.
Think about the Luke Breckenridge character in the American epic poem JOHN BROWN’S BODY. He joined the Southern cause to shoot the Kelceys, his Yankee neighbors. During the downfall of the Indonesian strong man Sukarno in the 1960’s, the fighting between factions was so bad, bodies were floating down the rivers. In talking with someone who witnessed it, I found out a lot of the killing involved personal vendettas and feuds which had nothing to do with the righteous animosity towards that corrupt dictator. And Gavrilo Princip was not a lone wolf, but a willing member of a group of assassins trained and organized by a Serbian army officer involved with liberation group called The Black Hand. The ongoing investigation into the Kirk assassination will ultimately lead to Deep State support and money.
So, we just keep prepping, stay vigilant, stay quiet. Look and listen to what is being said and written in your A/O. We all know those “boomer grumps”, consumers of box wine and Ben & Jerry’s, referenced above. Every town in this corrupt, syphilitic-thinking country has more than their share. The other clueless sheeple, normies, cucks, and Mall Zombies will continue on with their bread and circuses until the dollar dies and anarchy is loosed upon the world. That will be the time for each of us who have seen this coming to make our decisions. Plan accordingly. Bleib ubrig.

      1. John Brown attacking Harper’s Ferry to start a slave rebellion was the last straw for the South and lead to secession and Civil War.

        1. Actually it was the North’s response of celebrating John Brown’s attempt at a slave uprising, and their disappointment with it not being successful that got the Southerners to conclude that the Northerner’s wanted them all dead. That’s when many of the volunteer military organizations, which grew into the Army of the Confederacy, got going in earnest.

  7. “America is a nation where a third of the population sees another third as an existential threat”.

More like a fifth (hence the concept of 80-20 issues) seeing the other 4/5. It took a good 20 years for the American Revolution to come to a boil and 40 before the South got fed up shouldering the finfancial burden of the Federal Government.

We’ve been working on this since the mid 60s (at least openly) and a lot of the morons on the other side think they’re the Viet Cong. Lefty legend notwithstanding, Charlie was wiped out in the Tet Offensive and the NVA was supported by the Democrats and the Deep State, including Fake News, without whom they never could have gotten to Saigon.

’68 may seem like ancient history, but, for some of us, it was yesterday.

    1. Anon-

The prevailing wisdom was that when “Uncle” Walter Cronkite turned against the war, that ensured our defeat. And the fate of returning vets as well.

When there’s a Civil War, it’ll be messy. Assume a monstrous cohort of blacks runs amok in Charlotte. They mainly live in West Charlotte, across I-77. When they head east, all hell would break loose – the area south of I-277 is 95%+ white and well armed. Dead bodies everywhere with no way to handle those, other than a large bonfire.

Plus, few menthol cigs in that area.

The Hispanics live farther south. The bros know better than to attack them.

      1. The hard core left always scores below 30% in any reliable polling, Rasmussen. The believed hard support for Brandon never broke 30%. And that includes a bunch people dependant of his corrupt money machine, including welfare.

  8. P-Tar here, still on the air, just quieter lately. Hope all is well in Modern Mayberry, John. My best to you and yours, always.

#1 is a two-parter for me. Has a good place to go to, but has to work in Blue Hell, physical presence required. Plan Golf Tango Foxtrot Oscar is ready to go any time. Getting very, very in shape these days to be able to handle a solo exfil on foot if needed: “Toughen Up, Buttercup”.

#2 is solid. It’s not just the people you want. It’s the people you have… And knowing who you can’t have, and why, and staying firm on those principles. I’ve cut ties where necessary. I’m prepared to cut losses as well. There will be time for grief afterwards, maybe, and time for “I Told You So” after my ticket gets punched.

#3 is relative. “Security” is a state of mind, not a condition. In truth, nothing is ever perfectly safe, there’s just greater and lesser probabilities of injury or death based on conditions. “Sufficient Ammo” is one of those conditions. How much is sufficient? Against who and what? For how long? What is your resupply plan?

Terrain makes a big difference when it comes to defense. Traditional urban warfare math is 5 to 1 in favor of determined defenders holding turf. Traditional warfare math is being upended by thermographic sensors and weaponized drones. When planning defenses, think dispersed. Think thermally, visually camouflaged. Think deep.

21st century war has been revolutionized by drones. Not everyone will have drones… But enough will exist to make aerial recon, if not loitering munitions, common. Aerial recon feeds artillery. Artillery eats massed infantry and armor for breakfast. Skirmish cavalry will return: bikes, ATV’s, and horses. Notice who’s using them now.

#4 is always. Not just food storage, food supplies, but resupply. Hunting and fishing will get tough when they stop being hobbies. Growing food isn’t always easy: get practice now. Make sure you do it someplace you can defend or watch over. Crops will attract unwanted attention at harvest. Livestock will attract unwanted attention always. Still worth it. Where you can’t grow crops, grow fruit trees and flowers. Get bees, make booze. Booze = Trade.

As always, I’m hoping saner heads can regain control. Problem is that ‘saner heads’ (relativistic, I know) on the Left are Milquetoast MF’s. “The moderate majority are irrelevant”. Know your enemies. Don’t underestimate them. They want a civil war: if it happens, America will be busy, and the mice will play while the cat’s away.

    1. I think things are spinning. Scott Adams (five years ago!) said we wouldn’t have a civil war back then because, “We don’t want to.” Now he wants to dismantle the Democrat party.

  9. Personally, I see a lot of kicking the can down the Road. There is no organized Right. People will forget about Charlie Kirk as soon as the next big thing happens. The Kirk assassination took the Ukrainian girl out of the news to relief of corrupt officials in Charloot.

    1. It’s impossible for there to be an organized right, because TPTB step in to prevent anyone like that rising up. Most leaders on the right are controlled opposition, and those that aren’t either get in line, get removed from power, or get dead. Trump is the closest thing to an exception, and he is a center-left Democrat who has still had multiple assassination attempts.

To name but a few: Steve King, C Kirk, Pat Buchanan, Rockwell.

How can you have an open, national-level leader you can trust when our enemies can walk up to him, tell him that he can either accept $1,000,000,000 bribe, or his family members can’t use cars with remote access without the brakes somehow failing when it hits 65 mph. If that doesn’t work, they can offer $2b, $3b, whatever it takes. It’s just paper to them. Or who can walk up to him, shake his hand, and an hour later drops dead of a heart attack with no trace of cause.

No one is coming along at the national level to do what we think needs to be done at our local level. Plan accordingly.

  10. I had thought that it would be impossible to form a group from the normiecons in my community. After the recent trantifa violence they are waking up fast and wanting to buy firearms, learn how to shoot, etc. I recently retired so I guess know what I’m doing with my time now.
